Umineko no Naku Koro ni Chiru - 8 - Twilight of the Golden Witch recap part 4

Umineko Chiru Episode 8 - Twilight of the Golden Witch part 5

Ange's opponent is Beato, who sealed the chapel with a closed room barrier. Meanwhile, Auaurora is writing up a tale to give to Ange, in exchange for her being her miko... Bern is helping her get some motivation...
Ange said she wanted to know what happened that day. No matter how many tales you write distorting the truth, she'll never be satisfied.
No matter how interesting or uninteresting it is, everything you write is an illusion. Ange doesn't want any of that... Haven't you figured that out yet?
The Single Truth is boring... I certainly have aged... The first thing age taught me was that "not knowing" is more precious than "knowing".
Will it make for a better tale if Ange learns the truth, or if she doesn't? To be honest, I don't know... so I've decided to stop writing this tale.
I won't write it. I will merely show it... The tale that Ushiromiya Ange weaves herself.
Perhaps fate has decided that this book's seal is to be broken... Ange will reach the Single Truth, the Single Truth will break the seal on the cat box, and everything will be exposed to the light of day. And so, all of those countless message bottles and fragments made up of delightful imaginings, which have been scattered across the ocean of the internet, will fade away like foam on the sea.
Just then it was revealed that Hachijo had Ange's key in her drawer... hmm...

Beato is killing all of Ange's blue truths with her red... she tries to reason with Ange...
I know what Onii-chan's trying to say...! He's telling me to look to the future and live, instead of being stuck in the past, right?!
In that case, there's no need to keep waiting for my answer. The answer's "no", Golden Witch...! Back in 1986, I was already dead. I've wandered about like a ghost for 12 years since then...! And when Eva oba-san died, I lost my only reason to stick around on this Earth as a ghost! That's why I decided to do one last thing before ending my life!! Is there something wrong with that?
Indeed there is, foolish girl!! So, when you do reach the truth, you plan to die...! In that case, I can't let you have it...!!
Ange. You are young, and you have a long future ahead of you. In fact, you are a Golden Witch living in the future, are you not? Then live in the future. Just how much is a truth of the past really worth? Isn't the truth of the future, the truth that you will create yourself, far more important?
Haven't you ever thought about living on, hoping that by some miracle, one of them might have survived?
I'm not worried about that. Even the Witch of Miracles couldn't find a fragment like that.
This is the end, witch of 1986.... This closed room is perfect!! Therefore, I can't get out, and you can't lay a finger on me from the outside! However, you 'locked me into this room'! So, we can say you killed me with this simple trick...!! You shut me in this perfect closed room and made me starve to death...!!
Ange's blue spear crucified the witch against the window.
That's right. I'm looking for the truth so I can die... I know the real me is still floating in that starry sky.
When Ange jumped off that tower, Bernkastel acknowledged Ange as the final Beatrice and invited her on a journey to learn the truth of 1986.
I wanted two things from Bernkastel. One was for someone from my family to come back. The other... was revenge. I wanted to destroy the illusion of the Witch that hid the events of that day.
However, that first wish couldn't come true. as for the 2nd... Bern told her that she couldn't reach the truth unless she had the courage to end her worthless life, living like a ghost and hoping someone might come back. So Bern walked off the tower into the open air, and Ange followed her.
How can you live without knowing the truth? This cat box of yours is just a naive illusion. The idea that hiding a corpse means it might still be alive! But even if you hide a corpse, it's still dead...!!
Didn't you come to understand the power of magic through Maria's grimoire?
Yeah, I understood it. And then I despaired when I realized how powerless it was... and that's what Onii-chan is trying to force me to use now, isn't it?
Don't take me for a fool!!! You think that kind of magic, that illusion, that daydream... can heal those 12 years?!
I have the Book of the Single Truth...! I'll take it back to you, so let me have the truth!! I'm prepared to abandon my naive hopes for a miracle!! Now, tell me the truth of that daaaaaaaaaaaaaaay!!!
A blinding light poured out of the chapel... Battler and Erika even saw it...
Why did you talk Ange into looking for the Single Truth?! Your master must know... That truth doesn't mean anything for Ange!
Yes. All truths in this world are meaningless. In the end, 'meaning' comes from the mind of each individual human... even when there is a Single Truth, it can mean different things to different people!
The Single Truth has meaning to Erika, because she's a detective. But Ange.. to her, the truth is a way to mark the end of her unhappy life. She's a one-night Witch of Truth...
I won't let Ange die!! No matter how tough it gets, she has to live!! That's the only thing all of us want...!! If she lives, all sorts of magic and miracles would be possible...!!
If only you'd put your arm around her shoulder and told her that directly, you might not have lost.
Battler tried to take one last chance to grab the fragment from Erika, so that he could go back to where Bern is and rescue Ange... but failed... he and Beato are now stuck on the game board.

While people can learn, they cannot "unlearn"....
Too much curiosity... can kill... your hopes and dreams.
Lion, being the embodiment of hope for all of the Beatrices.. refuses to give up until the very end... when she and Will were surrounded by cats and it looked like it was all over, Lambda came in at the last minute and rescued them out of a miraculous whim... Lambda had just now showed up, munching on popcorn. saying this story has an obvious ending, so she may as well take her leave.
Lion:
So, you'd stop watching a play just because you think you know how it will end? Even though it might reach a climax you didn't expect?
Huh...? Are you talking to me, the Witch of Certainty, and saying that the outcome is uncertain?
Even though I, the Witch of Certainty, have already announced that this tale won't have a happy ending...?
Lion invited Lambda to join them in the Golden Land... she understood. In order to fight back against Bernkastel, who had taken Ange outside the board, they would need the power of another who was capable of leaving the board. Their last hope was to make sure Lambdadelta didn't abandon this game.

Ange:
Bernkastel. If, by any chance, you're planning to use me and steal both the key and the book, you won't get off easy.
Bern guarantees with the red truth that Ange will be able to read the book... Ange doesn't like trusting witches, but she understood that if she began to doubt even this red truth, there would be nothing left to trust in the entire world...

Ange is talking to Erika while Bern is working on the seal.. this place she is in is called "The Great Witch of Theatergoing, Drama, and Spectating's Noble City of Carefully Selected Books"
The books are all massive, the bookshelves are like skyscrapers... each of these books is packed with an ensemble play... if you open one up, you'll find a whole world inside.
...So, even our long tale is only one of these.
Great witches who live on a far, far higher plane than we do are hardly any different from a creator or god.
Even if the tale of the gods doesn't mention us, the main character in the story we write for ourselves is always us... Becoming aware of that fact is the first thing that separates witches from humans.
Even if Bernkastel hadn't appeared, I would've still taken that step off the edge that day.
Erika explains her reason for being a witch, and that she likes exposing secrets and watching people turn pale as they wonder how she figured it out... She asks Ange what the truth means for her... Ange was about to answer, but she bit down her own words... to Ange, the truth itself was the goal. At first, it was out of hatred. She hated Eva, but she had no proof that her aunt was the culprit... so at first, "the truth" meant proof that Eva was the culprit... However, now that Eva was dead, even if Ange did find that proof, it wouldn't mean anything.
You're going to expose the truth your beloved Onii-chan is hiding, even though it's meaningless? You're the one that's not making sense.
It's my reason for living.
So, once you do reach the truth, there won't be any point or purpose to you living anymore, right?
The Book of the Single Truth. Of course, I'm also dying to find out what's in it, but from what I hear, it doesn't sound like the truth inside is something spectacular enough to mark the end of your life with.
Ange realized that it was hardly surprising that Eva chose to say nothing about it... if the bomb had gone off by a malfunction or accident, it's doubtful that anyone would have believed her.
Being able to bear the truth is what makes a witch a Witch of Truth... Ange, it looks like you don't possess that strength after all. If you did, you wouldn't be thinking about dying.
Ange notices a huge crowd of witches and witch hunters are heading to this place... Erika explains that these are guests... Bern/Aurora must be holding a grand party tonight...
From what I've heard, while the great Lady Beatrice, the Endless Witch, is an outsider among witches, she's also the genius who created "Beatrice's cat box" out of her formidable magical compendium, the endless factory capable of producing endless tales... in the world of great witches, she's apparently pretty famous.
My master says she'll be holding a dinner party with Beatrice's guts. After all, it's only natural, right? The cat box was only able to generate infinite tales because there was no Single Truth. However, tonight... the Single Truth will be revealed, thanks to your key.
Ange keeps having 2nd thoughts, but reassures herself that she is only killing her illusions, not the real Onii-chan...
