Kara no Kyoukai: Mirai Fukuin movie recap

Kara no Kyoukai: The Garden of Sinners - Recalled out Summer box cover art

- Recalled out Summer -

There's this girl who can see the future with one of her eyes... she knows everything that is about to happen, and knows that there's nothing anyone can do to change it... also the intro is some vague scene where Shiki comes to a parking lot looking for a bomber, and then an explosion occurs which Shiki can't fight off and the knife falls out of her hand...

At first, it sounds like a guy who is describing this... but later it turns out to be a girl at Reien Academy... This girl is leaving the school to visit her dad... She is aware of 2 different versions of herself, the one in the present and the one in the future... She feels like she has no agency whatsoever because of her power...

Then as she gets off the bus, she immediately has a vision about someone getting run over by a car... She tries calling out to that person, telling him not to go that way, but he won't listen... Just then, Mikiya Kokuto appears as a random curious stranger and gets in the middle of this dispute. He listens to the girl and then says he'll go and try to stop that guy from being in danger... then an explosion occurs at a nearby building... The girl is really confused by all of this stuff that is happening that she didn't see coming... Now she's just cowering in fear... Kokuto eventually comes back to her and says she was right, and that he barely managed to save that guy from the accident.

Seo Shizune introduces herself to Kokuto...

Next, you see some guy tinkering with bomb materials... It's that guy from the beginning... He also has the same power that Shizune has... his right eye sees his desired outcome, and his left eye sees exactly how to bring that outcome to fruition.

Next is a scene where Aozaki, Kokuto, and Shiki are at some fancy party.. Shiki is bored and goes outside... She sees someone and tells him it's dangerous over there... he walks away, and then an explosion occurs nearby...

The bomber guy thinks to himself...
How did that woman know something dangerous was going to happen at the hotel?
Later, Shiki is talking to Aozaki about this bomberman.. saying he seems to be able to plan ahead way too well.. she almost got killed by a bomb that she just happened to come

Kara no Kyoukai: The Garden of Sinners - A Study in Murder - Part 2 box cover art

Febuary 1999 - Murder Speculation Part 2 -

Starts off wth a lot of pointless small talk... Then finally we get to some plot. Shiki and Mikiya pass by a TV showing something about the homicidal maniac on the news who is at his 10th murder so far... s this the same string of murders from movie 2 I wonder? They are both working for Toko now at this point. Shiki says this guy isn't really a killer, because none of these killings have any reason for them... She says that you can only kill once in your lifetime.

Shiki asks Kokuto to sleep with her.. the next day...

Toko:
What happened now and 4 years ago... Do you think it's Shiki?
Kokuto admits that Shiki doesn't have any alibis... but he still believes that Shiki couldn't have done it. Toko explains that since SHIKI is no longer inside Shiki, that personality called murder is no longer inside her...

Just then, Kokuto sees on the news that another murder happened. he tries calling Shiki and going to her apartment, and can't find her... He runs back to that bamboo forest place where he saw Shiki at the crime scene 4 years ago, gets flashbacks of her empty eyes and weird smile...

Then it goes to another flashback from movie 2 in that same area, where Shiki is about to kill Kokuto.. it shows more of that scene... suddenly Araya pops in out of nowhere and starts fighting Shiki.
You can't kill me? Appropriate if you're trying to survive. But you're trying to kill so you can run away. Do not lower your own value... You belong to one person. Live as one, and conclude as one. The spiral of conflict is the appropriate end for you.
Shiki notices something, like she's snapping out of a trance and switching personalities again.. She starts crying and running away, and Kokuto runs after her.. he eventually catches up and grabs her arm, and Shiki looks really sad and confused... then she runs away again and jumps in front of a car, probably to save Kokuto..

back to the present I guess... it's not being clear at all this time, not even showing the dates when it jumps around... Shiki is walking by herself in the rain, thinking about stuff... goes to take a shower, remembers the guy from movie 6 saying
I came to this country because Souren Araya requested that I return

Kara no Kyoukai: The Garden of Sinners - Oblivion Recorder - A Fairytale box cover art
- Oblivion Recorder - A Fairytale -

It starts off showing some artificial astronomy thing (what are those called again?), and then goes to some little girl who looks like Tohsaka Rin... I think it's actually Mikiya's sister a bit younger? she mentions a certain childhood dream she had but can't recall.

And now she's older, and some fairy flies up to her at her school... she introduces herself as the mage apprentice Azaka Kokuto, and gives her side of the story, how Shiki is her rival in love... She's completely open about the fact that she's in love with her brother... She even became a mage apprentice just so she can take on Shiki and force her to give Mikiya back... Toko gave her a mission to find and eliminate the magus who is using fairies to spread anxiety among the students at her school...
Since you can't see the fairies, you'll need the eyes.
Azaka and Shiki go to have a meeting with a teacher to ask him about the rumor about fairies attacking the school... he seems to know about fairies somehow, but doesn't believe that they were the cause of this one student's recent suicide. then the student council president comes and makes Satsuki-sensei come and help with council stuff... She tells them not to waste the teacher's time about this fairy stuff.

Later, Shiki sees a fairy and starts chasing it, and Azaka gets mad and doesn't take the clue that she has a lead... Then Shiki wakes Azaka up and tells her something that gets her mad at the fairies. They resume their investigation.. Azaka talks about some girl who committed suicide, ran out of class crying and saying "The fairies are coming!"... and then she ran into the old abandoned school next door and set the place on fire to kill herself... Somehow nobody else remembers this... Shiki says they're probably using the fairies to erase people's memory of this event, and killing people probably isn't their intention, it's just turning out that way.

Later, Azaka fights Shiki in bed and takes back a knife she stole.. Shiki finds out that she's in love with Mikiya, and she confesses. She doesn't remember the time when she fell in love with him, though.. that's why she asked Shiki if it's possible for people to get back memories that were taken from them, and she's disappointed when the answer is no.

Azaka ends up finding out that

Kara no Kyoukai: The Garden of Sinners - Paradox Spiral box cover art
- Paradox Spiral -

The stop motion theatre thing at the beginning has some strange guy who uses his boundary field powers to cut off Arcueid's cell phone instead of Shiki doing anything this time...

The intro just shows this orange-haired kid hanging out at Shiki's house for some reason... and then it cuts back to a flashback showing this kid seeing some crazy demonic stuff going on with the people he lives with... I think I remember this from the book, that guy's parents keep dying and coming back to life, and this kid gets so freaked out he ends up killing his parents himself and then running away.

Some burglar comes across some dead people in an apartment that he's trying to rob, and when he comes back with a police officer to show him, that person is alive again.

Some investigators are talking about this... the burglar's story sounded too detailed to be made up... it shows the connection between those dead people that were found alive, and their son who wasn't in the apartment, the orange haired kid Enjoe Tomoe.. later that guy gets in a fight with some guys who he owes money to or something... then Shiki comes up to save this guy for some reason..

(btw I just noticed this movie is 114 minutes instead of the usual 45-60 minutes)

Tomoe convinces this girl to let him hide out at her place...

It seems this guy has recurring nightmares about being stabbed by his mom... That's what drove him to kill his parents and run away. whenever Tomoe looks at his apartment key, he gets flashbacks of that...

Shiki still agrees to let him stay with her, even after he told her he killed somebody. she doesn't care at all... "I'm the same."
Later, she says "Mikiya won't be coming any time soon anyway." to further justify how she doesn't care about him staying with her... Tomoe says he noticed Shiki doesn't have a lock for her house, so he changed the lock for her and gave her the key...
A house without a lock... isn't a house.
It starts showing repeated scenes of the two of them living together, as if they're stuck in a time loop...

One day, Ryougi comes home and just about kills Tomoe...
I was out to kill someone. But I couldn't find the person to kill. I thought that you might do, but I couldn't. It's meaningless.

I want to feel like

Kara no Kyoukai movie 4 recap

Kara no Kyoukai: The Garden of Sinners - The Hollow Shrine box cover art
March 1996 - The Hollow Shrine

Shiki has been injured and is now in a coma... it shows a visualization of her accessing the "root" and learning to see death. Mikiya somehow meets Aozaki for the first time during this... Mikiya says she's different than she seemed like on the phone..
I'm switching my personality depending on how I view things.
Shiki is naked and is seeing hallucinations of her own body while floating in this endless void... suddenly she wakes up. She looks around and sees lines on everything... Touches a flower and kills it...

Mikiya and Toko comes to see Shiki, but only Toko is allowed to see her for some reason... Some nurses are saying something about how Toko is now in charge of this girl who Araya used to be in charge of... Shiki now has a blindfold on, I guess because she's still freaked out by her eyes. This is Aozaki Toko's first time meeting Shiki... She introduces herself as a sorcerer... Shiki says she has no need for one of those.
That's right... a sorcerer can't fill the whole in your chest. The only ones who can fill it are normal people... You've already realized that you're alone now, right?
Shiki is surprised about how much Toko knows...

That night, Shiki gets visited by some trippy looking figure that seems to be made up of the "Death" that only Shiki can see... it tries to go inside Shiki's body.

Was that just a hallucination or something? Next, Shiki is thinking to herself...
It's so beautiful here. It's so happy... but humans are so alone.
That woman who calls herself my councilor visited me every day. I realized that I had become dependent on my conversations with her.
Toko:
I see... So it's not that SHIKI-kun didn't have initiative over the body, but it's just that he didn't use it...
The two of you exist at the same time, each having their own experiences and will. And yet, the actions you take are the same. There isn't any other case of such a complex and bizarre dual personality.
Toko starts to wonder why SHIKI always sleeps, if they are essentially the same personality. Meanwhile Shiki is thinking about Mikiya... "His name is the only name I can't remember..."

Toko is talking to Mikiya about her...
She probably doesn't even have a sense that she's alive... but there will come a time when she'll realize that she's Shiki.
There's

Kara no Kyoukai: The Garden of Sinners - Remaining Sense of Pain box cover art
July, 1998: Remaining Sense of Pain

It starts off with this girl who can't feel pain, suddenly feels pain in her stomach after she gets raped/beaten up, and is really happy about it... Kokuto finds this girl and helps her out... next day Shiki gets assigned a new mission by Touko... she hears the description, and says she doesn't even need to look at the picture of the suspect this time.
She's my kind. We'll definitely try to kill each other the very moment we meet.
Kokuto borrows money from his friend in exchange for going to look for this missing person... That purple haired girl who can't feel pain is shown killing some random guy, asking where "Keita" is... she probably wants to see this guy again because he is the source of the lingering pain she felt that night...

Azaka is talking to that purple haired girl (Fujino) in a diner, and Shiki comes up to them to tell Azaka that her brother Kokuto stood her up... then Shiki notices something about Fujino... "Doesn't it.. hurt?"
She looks at her for a bit longer... "No... it's not you."
Azaka really seems to hate Shiki, and wants her to stop hanging around her brother.

The guy that Kokuto was asked to look for is "Keita"... he finds out that all of Keita's friends are being murdered one by one.

In the next scene where Fujino uses her mind powers to kill someone by bending their body... she says she needs to do this in order to become "like everyone else"... she doesn't really want to do it.
That's not true.
She criticizes her for how she goes about killing people...
A person who didn't end his life like a human isn't human anymore. A person removed from the boundary line is deprived of all his meaning. Common sense can't deal with things like that corpse, or you.
They're just about to start fighting, but then Fujino hesitates, and Shiki notices something is up with her again. She says..
Nevermind, it's worthless to kill you now. go home.
Fujino describes the time when she was a kid, and cut herself while playing with a knife... she didn't understand what her mom was saying about how "it must hurt"...
she never learned what pain feels like... until now.
I finally acquired pain, I'm alive.
Kokuto finds where Keita is hiding, and he freaks out when Kokuto plays the messages he got from Fujino.. he explains how she

Kara no Kyoukai movie 2 recap

Kara no Kyoukai: The Garden of Sinners - A Study in Murder, Part 1 box cover art
- August 1995 -
- Murder Investigations Part 1 -

This starts out when Shiki and Kokuto are just starting high school... this one time he greets her, she has these dead eyes making it look like she's not herself...

Shiki lives in some big japanese style house with a fancy gate and everything... some servant guy is seeing her off as she goes on one of her late night walks...
As the night grows deeper, so does the darkness. I think I walk through the empty town because I want to be alone. Or at least I want to think I'm alone...
It shows some random dude get run over by a car, and then cuts to Shiki standing over this corpse and then kneeling down into the huge pool of blood, licking it...

Shiki tells Kokuto she'll still wear her kimono even when it's winter, and he gives her the idea to wear a jacket over it... it cuts to another scene where some guy gets stabbed by an unknown person. when Kokuto mentions the murder to her at lunch, she says that's not a very good thing to talk about while eating.

The investigators say that this is the 4th one... and they noticed a strange yin-yang symbol written in blood. Later, the school announcement is saying all after-school activities are shut down for now... Shiki meets some unknown student who knows that she's looking for Kokuto, and tells her "I know you're irratated, but isn't four times a bit too much?", and then he walks off...

This story is just as hard to follow as it is in the book... it's a very weird style of storytelling...

Kokuto comes and offers her an umbrella, but she says she's waiting to get picked up by her guardian, so he asks if she would mind if he waits with her... he's very chill about it when she doesn't respond, he takes it as a "I don't mind" and just stands there with her, not even trying to make bothersome small talk or anything... and starts humming to himself. Shiki enjoys it... and then some really good classical music plays in the background along with the humming...

I gotta find this theme... at around 0:14:00

Suddenly, something happens inside Shiki's mind, a bunch of the murder scenes flash in her mind, and then she yells out "Kokuto-kun!"

Did she just change to her other self? which self was the one from before,

Kara no Kyoukai movie 1 recap

Kara no Kyoukai: The Garden of Sinners - Overlooking View box cover artKara no Kyoukai: The Garden of Sinners - Overlooking View screenshot
- September 1998 -
- Overlooking View -

The mysterious Fujyou building suicides... none of them had any reason... Shiki goes on one of her late night walks and finds a bloodied corpse on the ground, looks up at the building, sees some flying ghostly figures... 8 of them. Shiki's mage employer, Toko Aozaki, explains her theory...

The Fujyou buildings were built during the economic boom of the 70's then later abandoned... The decision to demolish them was made years ago, but they weren't emptied out until just recently.
I don't know how to put it, but time is crooked there. You could perhaps say that the order is reversed? People's memory, no, records. The rate at which the records compile themselves is slower in that building. So the records from when they were alive haven't been brought up to date yet. As a result, their memories live on.
People don't just instantly turn into nothingness after they die, as long as people remember them. Just like how smoke doesn't suddenly disappear when the fire goes out.
Then she goes into that philisophical discussion about how a view from high up changes your feelings on the world.
A vision that's too large creates a boundary between you and the world. It's more correct for you to recognize the large world you see as the world you live in rather than as the small space around you. But you can't feel that you're living in this big world no matter how hard you try.
She also comments toward Mikiya Kokuto... "I wonder when he will return"... not sure what that's about... Mikiya hasn't talked at all since that scene at the beginning where he brought Shiki some ice cream... Shiki starts to freak out about Mikiya not being around... she here's someone fall off the building, and thinks it's Kokuto at first. She goes into the haunted building, and fights this laughing girl who starts beating Shiki up by controlling her fake arm... Shiki cuts her fake arm off and gets out of there...

While Toko is remaking Shiki's arm, she tells her about when she hired Mikiya... he learned about Toko's doll-making abilities and became fascinated enough with her that he managed to seek her out, even though her headquarters are well hidden and protected. She thinks that maybe Mikiya saw Shiki's former emptiness in these dolls.

Is that girl who Shiki's been talking to all this time, really Toko? She
