It starts off showing some artificial astronomy thing (what are those called again?), and then goes to some little girl who looks like Tohsaka Rin... I think it's actually Mikiya's sister a bit younger? she mentions a certain childhood dream she had but can't recall.
And now she's older, and some fairy flies up to her at her school... she introduces herself as the mage apprentice Azaka Kokuto, and gives her side of the story, how Shiki is her rival in love... She's completely open about the fact that she's in love with her brother... She even became a mage apprentice just so she can take on Shiki and force her to give Mikiya back... Toko gave her a mission to find and eliminate the magus who is using fairies to spread anxiety among the students at her school...
Since you can't see the fairies, you'll need the eyes.Azaka and Shiki go to have a meeting with a teacher to ask him about the rumor about fairies attacking the school... he seems to know about fairies somehow, but doesn't believe that they were the cause of this one student's recent suicide. then the student council president comes and makes Satsuki-sensei come and help with council stuff... She tells them not to waste the teacher's time about this fairy stuff.
Later, Shiki sees a fairy and starts chasing it, and Azaka gets mad and doesn't take the clue that she has a lead... Then Shiki wakes Azaka up and tells her something that gets her mad at the fairies. They resume their investigation.. Azaka talks about some girl who committed suicide, ran out of class crying and saying "The fairies are coming!"... and then she ran into the old abandoned school next door and set the place on fire to kill herself... Somehow nobody else remembers this... Shiki says they're probably using the fairies to erase people's memory of this event, and killing people probably isn't their intention, it's just turning out that way.
Later, Azaka fights Shiki in bed and takes back a knife she stole.. Shiki finds out that she's in love with Mikiya, and she confesses. She doesn't remember the time when she fell in love with him, though.. that's why she asked Shiki if it's possible for people to get back memories that were taken from them, and she's disappointed when the answer is no.
Azaka ends up finding out that the student council president is the one controlling the fairies... They both seem like they're going to fight each other.. Azaka says she'll spare her if she can manage to bring out the memory she lost...
The fairies can only take away memories you remember. No one can recover lost memories, the oblivion. This girl just wants revenge on everyone who ignored Kaori's pain and didn't help her... even though she's the one who drove her to suicide with the fairies. Then these 2 fairies start voicing and acting out the memory where the guy that was causing Kaori pain gets murdered.. or something. She makes Azaka unconscious, and Azaka wakes up and realizes she still kept her memory of that event for some reason...
Next, a teacher comes up to Azaka, waking her up, and saying all the other students have disappeared. Shiki finds her and gives her the message that Mikiya gave her... that the true culprit is that one teacher who woke Azaka up just now... Toko doesn't think Azaka needs her help on this, because while this guy, kurogiri, is a powerful mage, he doesn't actually have any will to fight anyone. Azaka passes just by him no problem, and gets to the abandoned building, where all the students have been drawn into, about to set fire to the place.
While Azaka faces down the student council president, Shiki faces down this harmless mage who's powers the student is borrowing..
Azaka starts acting confident and saying that this girl isn't really behind the suicides at all... Kaori, and the teacher who died, killed themselves because of drugs... Azaka says that this girl's memory was altered, and that her revenge is misplaced... She still thinks she's right, because she used the fairies to spy on everyone... but Azaka says what she heard was only rumors after the fact... they start fighting for real now.
Meanwhile, Shiki has started fighting Kurogiri, who has the power of words, and is nicknamed "God's Word".. he can even hold his own against Shiki by making her temporarily blind... that fight goes unresolved, but I guess he spares Shiki... Azaka is able save that non-mage girl Tachibana from the fairies that are about to kill her... she realized that Tachibana was drugged by that teacher to get her to forget about that incident, which made her want revenge for Kaori...
Shiki comes in just when Azaka finishes their job... later, Azaka is in a really good mood and gets Mikiya to take her on a date to make up for him being alone with Shiki the day before.
I had a dream about my childhood. A person who was important to my brother and I died. He looked really sad, but he didn't shed a single tear.Mikiya explains that he isn't crying because "crying is a special thing. you can't just cry when you want to."
It was from that moment that Azaka realized what a great person Mikiya is, and she fell in love with him.
The two of them staring up at the starry sky... that's what the planetarium imagery from before was about...
It was a dream from a distant day I should never remember....
After the credits, it shows some guy going around killing people and eating their corpses.. and Alaya shows up (wtf isn't he dead?) and gets persuades him to break down even further and awaken to his true origin...
