Resuming my log/recap of the Gakuen Alice manga. This is dragging a lot longer than I expected... hard to believe there's still like close to 100 chapters left.

Natsume tries to rescue Mikan from this dangerous ability class.. Persona orders Nobara to attack them, but instead she attacks her superiors and tells Natsume and Mikan to run... Narumi helps them escape by distracting them.. he tells them to flee to the middle school principal's Hana Hime shrine.. a place where the dangerous class people can't get to easily.
Hotaru and Luca are rebelling and helping them out too, and are putting themselves in danger as well.. Hotaru gets rescued by some unknown older guy.. he has a wind alice and keeps on saying "Cool Blue Sky" at random.. he brings Hotaru to the middle school where Mikan and Natsume are... meanwhile Mikan hears from the middle school principal that her actions caused her friends to get in trouble, and that Hotaru will be forced to transfer to a foreign country...
Narumi gets rescued by Jinno-sensei, who is now on the side of the high school principal team. Later, one of Mikan's alice stones starts glowing, and she, Natsume, and Hotaru all get teleported to the high school principal HQ. Nodachi the time traveling teacher is there, who says he made the elementary principal guys lose track of them through time shenanigans.. Luca is also there, and he and Natsume have an emotional moment similar to Mikan and Hotaru.. these 4 elementary kids are now all wanted criminals by the elementary principal... the high school principal opposes the elementary principal's plans and wants to help Mikan... now getting to Chapter 100.. I have a feeling this is going to be the big moment where Mikan finally meets her mother..
Chapter 100
The high school principal introduces himself as the brother of Mikan's
deceased father... This high school division team tells Mikan and the
others that the elementary school's plan to use Mikan's stealing alice
would endanger not only Mikan, but the other students as well. The best
course of action is for Mikan to run away from the school and live with
her mother, Azumi Yuka... meanwhile, Narumi notices someone (probably
Yuka) hiding in that room behind a door... Narumi doesn't yet know that
Yuka is here.
Mikan isn't sure what to think about all this, and starts crying...
Natsume and Luca both jump in to object and insist that Mikan should be
allowed to make her own decision. She doesn't even know who this Yuka
person is... so Nodachi offers to take the 4 of them into the past so
they can see for themselves what happened when Yuka attended this
academy... Hotaru is having another emotional moment with her brother
here.. now that Hotaru will be forced to go to another country, her
brother admits that he should've treated her more like a sibling, and
that he'll miss her..
Chapter 101-106
Yuka revealed herself and called out to Mikan just as they were vanishing... Mikan realizes she must've heard the whole thing about her refusing the idea of being taken by her mother..
Noda goes back a bit too far, to where Yuka was just enrolled at the academy at age 5, 24 years ago... at first she only had the teleportation alice. It was later on that she learned she also had the stealing alice. There's a really emotional scene where Yuka was abandoned by her parents... Then Noda takes them 5 years further into the future, where Yuka is 10 and she meets the 22 year old Yukihara-sensei, teacher of the special ability class, and Mikan's father... He discovered his nullification alice just a few years before this, when his brother (the high school principal) tried using his alice on him.
Yukihara reminds me a lot of Mikan.. he's a very cheerful person, and the principal thought that he'd be able to help change this academy. Noda says that when he first saw Mikan, she reminded him of a younger Yuka with Yukihara's energy. Noda then showed when Yuka first met Yukihara.. Yukihara was just starting out as a teacher then. he wanted to teach high school girls but ended up with kids.. he called Yuka "Chibi-chan" and yelled at her a lot for trying to skip class and cause trouble... later, Yuka was electrified by the border fence, trying to escape because she was worried about the fact that she hadn't recieved any letters from her parents... Yukihara agreed to help her.. Up until now, Yuka has been unable to open up to adults, because of the trauma of being abandoned by her parents.
another jump, 2 years ahead.. Yukihara and Yuka are now friends, and Yukihara is a very popular teacher, recieving valentine's gifts from the girls in elementary and middle school.. Koizumi Luna transfers into Yukihara's class... nobody wants to be her friend because she has the dangerous soul-sucking alice. they think that anyone who allows Luna to get close to them will have their soul sucked out... The elementary principal tells Yukihara he wants him to use his nullification alice as a way of disciplining the students... Jinno is also a new teacher, and he agrees with using force/violence to discipline, but Yukihara doesn't agree with that...
Luna manages to talk to Yuka and make friends with her... Yuka feels sorry for her because she has the same sort of abandonment issues as her. The elementary principal is the only person who has ever told Luna that she should be proud of her dangerous abilities...
I'm starting to see now why Luna has such devotion to that principal and hates Yuka/Mikan. although the part about Yuka betraying the academy and causing the elementary principal to lose his youthful look, hasn't been fully explained yet.
then it jumps ahead to when Yuka/Luna are in middle school... Yuka discovers her stealing alice when she gets into a fight with Luna and steals her alice away in front of everyone... Luna never forgave Yuka for that, and she started using her alice on the other students to make Yuka feel just as outcasted as she used to be... Yuka then gets forced by the elementary school principal to do some dirty work using her stealing alice, taking alice stones from people who are about to die.. Yuka is ashamed of doing this, and thinks of herself as a "god of death"... when Yukihara sneaks into the middle school to find Yuka, Yuka doesn't want him to have anything to do with her... she doesn't want her tainted hands to ruin the radiance of Yukihara's light.. but Yukihara ignores that and takes Yuka away from the principal, saying that he has jurisdiction over her as the special ability division teacher.
Yukihara tried to reason with Luna, saying that Yuka and her were always best friends and she should forgive Yuka... and now he's telling Yuka that she shouldn't blame herself for what she did to Luna... she was trying to prevent Luna from falling into darkness... This is the scene where Yuka falls completely in love with Yukihara...

Chapter 107-110
Somehow in the middle of their time trips, the missing Tsubasa appeared and met Mikan and the others... or maybe this was after the whole time trip ended...
it goes back to tell the rest of Yuka's story after that scene...
Yukihara now has to deal with Narumi, a 12 year old elementary student who uses his pheremone powers to make other students do his bidding... he's kind of like Natsume at this point... I think the elementary principal is making him do missions or something too... Yukihara then gets the idea to have Yuka partner with him so that she can tame him and make him more likable...
Yuka and Narumi hate each other at first, and Yuka keeps threatening to steal his alice away... at one point, Narumi is depressed for having to use his alice for all those missions, and he asks Yuka to steal his alice away... Narumi gradually falls in love with Yuka and Yuka doesn't hate him so much anymore. But Yuka is still very much in love with Yukihara...
After that... some really confusing stuff happens with Yuka that wasn't translated very well... but basically I think the elementary division is trying to regain control of Yuka, and the middle school principal takes her in instead, using her stealing alice to help keep her youthful.. Yuka gained a new best friend in the middle school division, someone named Igarashi.. and coincidentally that person is also Natsume's mother.
Chapter 111-114
a lot more confusing things start happening... Igarashi gets Yuka to start thinking about trying to change this school to save the students from being used badly... later, Igarashi graduates and leaves the school, leaving Yuka on her own... some rumors start spreading about Yuka being engaged to this person called "Shiki", who I'm not really sure of his connection... I think he's related to the Junior High principal or something? and Narumi confesses to Yuka and tries to rape her.. Yuka runs away back to Yukihara, and Yukihara tells her he doesn't care about her love life.. Yuka sees this as a breakup and thinks Yukihara doesn't care about her anymore...
It's all very confusing though.. this manga doesn't do a very good job at all of getting its story across, or even summarizing any of the events that happen... I'm mostly just guessing.
Later, I think Yuka is now in high school, and she's started trying to protect the new elementary kids, one of whom is Hotaru's big brother... She then starts getting close to the elementary principal again and almost gets forced into marrying him... one of the high school division guys tricks Yuka into going to meet Yukihara again, and he gives Yuka a chance to explain herself... Yuka says this school is the only thing she's ever known, and she thinks of all the kids in the elementary class as her own kids... she is getting close to the elementary principal in order to protect those kids... Yukihara remembers when Yuka herself was just a kid and he was trying to teach her that she'll eventually grow up and come to see the school as her family... this makes Yukihara realize his feelings and he confesses to Yuka...
now Yukihara and Yuka are both on the run from the elementary division.. being protected by the other divisions... Later, we find out about this really dangerous young student that Yukihara is protecting, that he named Rei... it's the same person who later becomes Persona. I think what happens next is Yuka comes across this student and releases him from prison... Noda stops there and warns Mikan that this next scene won't be easy to watch...
Chapter 115-117
so it wasn't actually Yuka who released Persona/Rei.. it was the elementary principal. Yukihara was keeping him prisoner until he could learn to control his powers safely.. With Yukihara, at least his nullification alice kept him safe from his touch of death...
but now the principal is trying to get Rei to think that Yukihara tricked him and was treating him badly... Yukihara finds out what happened to Rei, and he tells Yuka he'll be right back.. Yuka doesn't know about this yet... Mikan finds out that this must've been what they meant by the next scene getting ugly.. this is where Mikan's dad died... Mikan tries jumping through the time portal to save him, but she is speechless when she gets there and can't say anything... Yukihara hears her cry out "Daddy!" when she gets pulled back through the portal by Tsubasa...
Rei gets mad at Yukihara and unleashes his full power, which even Yukihara's nullification alice can't stop...
Yuka is confused about what happened to Yukihara... lots of rumors being spread about him.. the principal wants to keep his death a secret in order to avoid bringing attention to this new student.
The high school principal is discussing this with someone, and they finally reveal the mystery of the elementary principal's alice.. he has the clone alice... he splits himself in two so that his age gets divided between the two clones and he stays young...
Yuka eventually does find out that Yukihara died, and that the elementary principal had something to do with it, she goes into a room to find Rei.. he explains to her that he accidentally killed sensei... he didn't know it would work against him this time... the principal comes in.. Yuka is totally livid and says she'll make sure he never gets his way ever again.. the principal says he's prepared for her in advance and has a barrier to protect against her stealing alice.. but she still hasn't told him about her new alice stone insertion alice...
She has inserted 2 alice stones into the principal. one from Yukihara and one from Rei... as retribution for what he did to these 2 people, him and all of his clones will now have these 2 conflicting alices inside them...
The principal's allies all come in to see what's going on... Yuka is still crying, and she says goodbye to Luna and leaves.
Chapter 118-119
Narumi tries to stop Yuka from escaping.. he doesn't want her to be alone.. Yuka wants Narumi to stay here and try to change the school from the inside... she says she'll try to change it from the outside... The junior high principal and some others give her powerful alice stones to help keep her hidden away from the academy...
At first, Yuka tries returning to her parents, but she can tell she is just a burden on them and doesn't want to get them in trouble, so she just starts living on her own... but when Mikan is about to be born she realizes she can't take doing this on her own, and she seeks out her friend, Natsume's mother..

Chapter 120-122
After giving birth to Mikan, Yuka gives her healing alice stone to Natsume's mom, who needs it more because she's also having a child and her life-draining alice is taking a toll on her... Natsume's mom finds out that her child also has a life-draining alice, and she gives the alice stone necklace to him.. Natsume remembers the scene where his mom is telling him about how important this amulet is...
Yuka doesn't know what to do when Mikan gets a fever, and then she comes across an old man... it's Jii-chan... the current Mikan shouts out his name as soon as she sees him... This old man helps to heal both Yuka and Mikan, and then the academy people knock on the door looking for Yuka... Yuka realizes she would only put Mikan in perpetual danger by keeping her, so she leaves Mikan to this old man who has agreed to pretend Mikan is his granddaughter, then she teleports away... the old man says she was like a celestial angel who came to bring him this child...
At this point, Mikan has made up her mind, and decides she wants to leave the academy with her mom... but she still wants to see a bit more of this story before leaving... it shows the part where Yuka goes back to Natsume's mom, and they find out more about the conspiracy of the elementary principal's clones... apparently one of his clones is the leader of an anti-academy group... I think Yuka decides to go and join this group in order to help with her mission or something...

Chapter 123-131
Finally, back to the present... that whole big time travel arc is now over...
When they get back, the rest of the people in the high school principal room are gone... Noda says they came back a little later than expected, and the elementary group must've made it past the barrier... Yuka and Narumi and the others are now on the run...
That "cool blue sky" guy finds them, and tells them about what happened... Hotaru's brother is now being controlled by the soul possession girl. Mikan finds a letter from Yuka and a bunch of alice stones she left for her. Yuka says that these stones will come in handy if it turns out that Mikan also has the insertion alice... This older guy tests it out by throwing an alice stone into Mikan's mouth... and she absorbs it... she does have the insertion alice. Mikan remembers what Narumi taught her, about how alices can be used for good, and she agrees to use her insertion alice to help save everyone.
She inserts the alice stones into herself and her friends.. Mikan ends up gaining the teleportation and telepathy alice... she can now here the voices of several other telepathy-capable people, including her mother... When they teleport somewhere else, they get attacked by students controlled by Luna... but there's now another faction of students that have started fighting back against Luna/Persona's group and they come to help Mikan's group out...
When Mikan and the others go to teleport somewhere else, Nobara stays behind... Mikan calls out to her, but she refuses to go with her and is determined to go and face Persona by herself... she has now started using her ice alice offensively, which she has always been afraid to do in the past...

Chapter 132-135
Nobara is still with Persona... she's not fighting her though (wait, Persona's a girl?)... she's now trying to protect Persona from the elementary division.
Mikan wants to help Hotaru get her brother back, but they reminded her she doesn't have much time before her promised meeting with Yuka... Hotaru says goodbye to Mikan in a really dramatic, emotional scene... and she kisses Mikan on the lips... she finally admits that she loves Mikan even more than Mikan loves her...
Luna is also planning to show up where Mikan is meeting her mother... meanwhile Narumi is still clinging to Yuka... some confusing flashback stuff going on with Hotaru's brother, where he got in trouble for helping Yuka and found out his sister was born and tried to help save her from the academy...
Hotaru realizes she was given the stealing alice stone from Mikan, and she uses it to take the soul sucking alice stone out of her brother..
The older students tell Luca to protect Mikan while she goes to her mom... at that moment, Mikan gets a telepathy signal from Natsume... she starts reading Natsume's incredibly sad feelings for the first time...

everyone is shouting at Mikan to get going, but she's focused on her connection with Natsume... she tells him... "I love you too..."
Tono suspects that Noda is a traitor working for the elementary principal... but he finds out it's not Noda who they saw, it was Goshima Hijiri, the 3 year old, in his older form...
Tsubasa gets attacked, but is saved by the pheremone alice stone in his body... they tell Tsubasa to go find Goshima, since he's the one who has the key to the door that Mikan needs to get through to meet her mom... then they tell Natsume to go to Mikan to save her from Goshima's trap (and for his own sake as well)... I guess Natsume's psychic link with Mikan wasn't active anymore...
Narumi isn't with Yuka anymore now, and he's desperately trying to go to her so he doesn't lose her again.. Shiki finds Yuka and tells her she can help Yuka and Mikan escape... then Narumi finds her and refuses to let her go without him... but Shiki says she only has enough power to get Yuka and Mikan out. In order to leave with both Mikan and Narumi, she'd have to leave through the warphole which is much more dangerous..
Natsume meets up with Mikan and Luca, and then at the very next moment, Yuka, Narumi, and Shiki meet up with Mikan...
Chapter 136-137
Mikan and Yuka's emotional reunion gets cut short by the appearance of Luna. They managed to get away with Natsume and Naru's help... Shiki telepathically tells Yuka that Goshima is a traitor, and they won't be able to get the key.
But then, Tsubasa shows up with the key... I guess he's already taken care of Goshima... They open the lock, and the door explodes... Yuka is injured, and Natsume gives Mikan his healing alice stone to use on Yuka... but she still needs medical attention...
Even Luna seems a bit shocked over what happened to Yuka.. and the elementary guards are confused about what to do, and they start treating Yuka... Mikan notices the soul sucking alice mark isn't on them anymore, and notices Luna standing there in shock...
It turns out the Tsubasa that gave Yuka the key wasn't Tsubasa at all, he's still outside with the others.. That person was... the elementary principal?
Mikan shouting "Mother!"... Luna shouting "Yuka!"... Narumi shouting "Senpai!"...
Yuka passes away right there...
oh no... I wasn't expecting this story to get so heavy... I couldn't make it to 140 after all...
