It shows Tohkasa grab her dad's pendant before heading out to school... the war hasn't started yet, but she noticed nobody else is outside..
Tohsaka: "Listen, Matou-kun... Not only am I not interested in archery, I'm not interested in you."
She goes upstairs and sees the student council president standing outside a classroom, waiting for Emiya to come out with a fixed machine..
"Where's the next one? If it's dead, I can't fix that. Buying a new one would be faster... You're here early, Tohsaka."
Tohsaka thinks to herself as she walks by... "Was that his way of saying hello?"
even the other girls in class give Tohsaka a lot of unwanted attention. some don't trust her.. "When she's smiling, she's at her scariest."
later on the roof she recalls how she found this pendant and some expired magical stuff in a chest in her attic... it messed up all the clocks in the house.
"But it won't help me summon Saber, the most powerful Servant."
back in her fancy expensive looking house... she gets a message from the priest. then does an amazing looking ritual to summon her servant..
Tohsaka when she meets Archer instead of Saber: "Wait, all the clocks in the house were an hour fast today..."
"Seems I've been drawn by quite the unusual little Master."
Tohsaka has to ask him to clarify that he is her servant... he instead asks for proof that she's his master. but it's not the command seal he cares about...
"I wanted to see if you are someon worthy of my loyalty."
"You grudgingly acknowledge me, but you won't listen to my opinions?"
"When fighting, I will call my own shots. Until this Holy Grail War ends, I suggest you sit tight in the cellar or something."
finally Rin gets mad at him and decides to use up one of her command seals to make him more obedient.
he says that her command seal was too vague and didn't work... "Even 100 command seals couldn't compel true, absolute obedience in every word and deed... normally that would be true... But it would seem your skill as a mage is extraordinary."
"Your words now carry a powerful compulsion for me. You are a powerful mage. I was mistaken in looking down on you as a child and trying to keep you from fighting."
"I'd just been summoned, so I wasn't yet fully acclimated. But now we are completely connected. As a mage, you should be able to
sense the bond between us through our pact."
in other words... Archer just now started to feel the weight of Rin's magical strength in his summoning ritual, where she even used some of her own blood and her dad's heirloom...
"A Servant is anchored to this world by the mana supplied by his Master."
Later, Archer pisses her off by admitting he forgot which heroic spirit he is... saying her ritual must've been imperfect..
"It's no big deal though. I am a Servant summoned by you. I cannot be anything but the most powerful."
this guy Archer is the first one that has seen Tohsaka's purer side in a long while, as opposed to her usual school persona... in fact, Rin is so informal with him, she even forgot to tell him her name.
when she takes Archer for a tour around the city... he says this panoramic view she showed him at the end should've been the only part of the tour. Then he asks to know what Tohsaka's goals are... Tohsaka says she doesn't really have a goal, despite training her whole life for the sake of the Holy Grail War just because it's her family's purpose.
on the way home, Tohsaka comes across the Servant Gilgamesh, but hides away and doesn't make it clear that she knows who he is, just that he's a suspicious person with Kirei...
on the way to school, Rin is trying to reassure Archer that there are no other mages at least in this part of town... but then she senses a bounded field around the school... although it's third rate if it can be sensed by her... she goes and finds all 7 of the seals that make up this bounded field, and learns about them. this field can be triggered to eat the souls of every non-mage inside it. she tries to disable it, and just then she meets the Servant Lancer... he can see the invisible Archer who is near her.
Their super fast crazy dbz battle is interrupted when they see a human witness running by, and Lancer chases after him to eliminate him... Tohsaka runs off to try to save him, saying that she was always careful not to let anyone witness her magic and be obligated by the mage's association to make her eliminate that person.
Tohsaka cries when she finds out the person who got stabbed by Lancer is Emiya Shirou, friend of Sakura's...
Archer gives Tohsaka back the pendant she used up to save Shirou... but she doesn't know this pendant is actually a different one that Archer himself had...
"Don't lose it again. It isn't suited to anyone but you."
Rin makes Archer take her out again to chase after Lancer, realizing his master would probably find out that Shirou is still alive and want to finish the job... But then they get attacked by a new Servant, Saber... that's where the episode ends.

Episode 20
Lancer is somehow still alive after being ordered to stab himself... and he comes up to kill Kirei just as he's harrassing Tohsaka. Matou resumes his assault on Tohsaka instead, but Lancer still won't die and he comes and tosses Matou against the wall... Matou tries to summon Gilgamesh to save him... but without Kirei's help, he doesn't even have the mana necessary to command his Servant.
Meanwhile, Archer continues to taunt and act like he's going easy on Shirou in their fight... Shirou is surprised when he notices Archer is using the same strengthening technique he does on his swords... Shirou then starts using the strengthening technique on his own body... must be something to do with being connected to Avalon.
Archer isn't looking down on him as much anymore after that... "It appears that, every time our swords clash, your skills are being honed."
Shirou starts envisioning his own version of unlimited blade works... with Archer's version at the end of the unlimited field of blades... "But when I think that my feet will be taking me down this path, my heart feels like it will break."
Shirou's field... is much more empty and doesn't have the creepy rotating gears inside it... it represents Shirou's vision Archer, with all those unlimited blades peircing him in the back... the one who was betrayed by his past self's ideals...
Then Archer makes his field appear, and starts lecturing Shirou again...
"I no longer have memories of the past. But nevertheless, I remember that scene."
"You admired his wish to help others because it was so beautiful! Consequently, you have no passions of your own!"
Emiya thinks to himself while bleeding on the ground... "Most of what he said was right. But I felt like he was forgetting something. I saw Hell... I saw a Hell I arrived at before. And I saw a Hell that I would arrive at one day. You were... well, I guess you were right... You seem to have lost many things."
"You seem to be wrong. I'm here because I was stubbornly intent on losing nothing. I didn't lose anything. But yes, there is one thing. There is one thing that I forgot."
Shirou: "What was the point of my surviving that Hell? Why were we spared?"
"Hey. That's Hell you're walking into."
"This is what you forgot. I admit that, at first, it was just admiration. But that admiration was built on a wish. The wish for this Hell to be undone. The unfulfilled wish of a man who only wanted to help others, but who lost everything in the end."
Shirou finds his "Unlimited Blade Works"... an empty field full of swords... with empty skies... to represent his wish to undo that Hell... unlike Archer's skies which are filled with rotating gears to represent being imprisoned by a will that he no longer recognizes as his own... Shirou pulls a blade out of the ground...
Archer notices something weird about how his wounds heal so fast, and suspects Saber must have something to do with it... "The link to Saber that Kiritsugu implanted in us, to save our life. That is a sacred relic, not something that was summoned. Even with the pact severed, its protection continues."
Shirou: "...Steel is... my body."
as he says this, his body literally turns to steel and heals itself.
"Just as you reject me... I'll use every ounce of my strength... to defeat the me that is you."

Episode 21
Archer: "Just kill yourself, Emiya Shirou. Yes, if that happened, a mistake like me would vanish like mist."
Saber: "They're beginning to think on the same wavelength. If this keeps up, Shirou is certain to catch up to him."
"The problem is the thing he's attempting to slay, stopped being me long ago."
Shirou: "It's true that my wish was a fake... But I sensed a beauty in it. I understand that putting others before myself is hypocritical. But even so... I admired it, thinking, 'If I could live like that, how great would that be?' ... Even if my life is a sham, the wish for others to be happy must be beautiful."
Shirou is just as stubborn in his wish for others to be happy as Madoka/Homura are...
lol Shirou's plot armor is so ridiculous... all those hits he's taken... and Shirou defeats Archer in one decisive hit... lmao
it'd be really easy to make a cut of this that makes it look like it has REALLY bad writing and action scenes.
"Now that I've accepted you, the hero Emiya can no longer stay here."
Archer just admits defeat and backs down on his own will after that... just then Saber warns Archer of an attack, but it's too late... Gilgamesh stabs Archer in the back with a bunch of swords.
"A truly pointless fight between two fakes."
"It's up to you... to defeat him."
Archer then vanishes in Gil's next attack. Tohsaka gets pissed and attacks him.
Saber recognizes him as the Archer from the previous war... Gil explains how he absorbed the mana of the holy grail 10 years ago, and that is how he is still alive even without Kirei. and that the seven servants summoned by masters don't exactly seek the grail itself, but its contents...
"The mages were able to create the grail, but they were unable to provide what is meant to fill it. Mana of the highest purity, with which to fill the grail... If the souls of 6 servants were sacrificed into it... it would be nigh omnipotent."
Saber realizes the Grail she is after won't grant her wish after all... Gil then reminds Saber of what she did 10 years ago... forced by Kotomine's command spell to destroy the grail with her holy sword.
"What spilled forth became a great flame that burned the city."
"At that point, I learned of the grail's true nature... It is rubbish, but it has its uses.Of my many weapons, I have none so perfectly tailored to killing."
Saber then reaches the ultimate conclusion he was getting to... that Gil's goal is to wipe out all of the humans of this era. Now that Kirei isn't getting in his way, he just has this one inferior fake to take care of... but something causes Gil to back down and save his last target for another time. It must be that it's almost time for the ritual to make the grail appear... He wants to open that portal to Hell again that Emiya faced before.
Gil finds that Matou kid, and punches a whole in his stomach to insert the grail's heart into so he can act as the vessel.

Episode 22
Tohsaka already knows where Holy Grail is being summoned.. she sent familiars to each of the 3 known trigger areas, and the one at Ryuudo Temple was smashed. They have a strategy meeting about how to destroy the grail while dealing with Archer/Gilgamesh... then Tohsaka comes up with something but is too embarrassed to give details, and talks to each of them alone in her room instead...
She tells Shirou that Heroic Spirit Emiya is probably the only one who can match Gilgamesh's arsenal... but Shirou's only problem is his current magic level... she tells him about a method that links two mages together to share their mana...
"Even if you don't have the mana to use a Reality Marble, I do."
Tohsaka, blushing: "I'm going to implant my magic crest into you."
it turns out to be not as lewd as they were making it out to be... but Tohsaka is still embarrassed because she has to take her shirt off too, and he gets to see visions of her memories during the procedure...
Then later, Saber goes and thanks Shirou for giving her the answer she was looking for...
meanwhile the holy grail summoning is already progressing...
"Vomit forth your curses, Holy Grail. The time has come to judge whether the humans of this era can withstand the weight of their own wishes."
