The physical ability class is doing a play that's a combination of Snow White and Sleeping Beauty.. Luca is embarrassed because Narumi made him play as the princess.. but then he gets even more embarrased when some people from other classes have to take over some roles because of a sticky ball accident.. and Mikan takes the role of Prince..
also Natsume plays as a cat to help out the kid playing a dwarf who is now stuck to his hand... he gets jealous seeing Mikan and Luca practicing together..
the queen (played by Sumire) has really good acting in this... the crowd is disappointed at Mikan replacing a girl they were looking forward to seeing though... after a cringey musical scene with Luca singing.. the queen sends a magic biting apple to bite the princess..
during the prince's scene, Sumire comes up to whisper to Mikan that the script has been changed and they have to ad-lib the rest of it now... The queen gains whiskers and cat ears and starts swordfighting with the prince... and suddenly someone throws a bone past them to get the queen to go chase it.. after that, Narume holds up a sign telling Mikan she has to kiss Luca for real to make the audience believe it more... she hesitates a lot, and Natsume throws an apple at her head to quickly end the scene.
Episode 20 - Who Will Have the Last Dance?
I definitely remember this part from the manga...
except this subplot I don't remember... Mikan is talking to that star mole guy during the festival closing ceremony... he tells her to keep quiet and not ask questions about these 3 school principals, one of whom is a kid... they act like royalty or something... Jinno is about to yell at Mikan, but then a teacher pulls him away... and now him and all the teachers are confronting Narumi, who is about to give something to Mikan which would allow her to contact the outside world... none of them want him to do this, saying it'll be a repeat of an incident from the past... Narumi disagrees, saying giving her this will make it so that doesn't happen again.
a bunch of Technical class students get called up for awards... and Hotaru wins the Rookie award..
Mikan is all pumped and is stopping Hotaru from going to the stage because of congratulating her so much... and then, they called an award for the Special Ability class.. Tsubasa and the girl both comment on how this was such a typical delayed reaction for Mikan...
then there's a really emotional scene where Narumi gives Mikan letter from her grandpa.. she gets tears as soon she recognizes the handwriting...
the 2nd half of the ep is the Last Dance part... Mikan and her friends run into Luca and Natsume, and they here some people gossiping about how Luca is going to dance with Mikan.. they both deny it. Sumire then chases the gossipers away... Mikan is still with them, and Luca tries to run away and Natsume does something totally unexpected and just pushes Luca towards Mikan. Mikan asks Luca just to a normal dance, which he agrees to because it's less serious than the Last Dance.
Later, Hotaru goes up to Luca and warns him.. "that girl is slow"
Mikan finds Natsume sitting alone in the grass, and wants to dance with him too.. but he tells her off and says she won't allow her to come any closer to his dark secrets.. Mikan just thinks he's gone back to being a jerk again, but Natsume address her as Mikan to show that he's serious... that makes her frozen and speechless.. she gets nervous now when people ask her who she's going to dance with in the Last Dance.
Luca overheard Natsume and Mikan.. he tells Natsume that he should go to the dance, and that Mikan is probably gonna pick him instead of (Luca)..
it turns out... Hotaru ends up choosing Mikan as her Last Dance partner.
Episode 21 - Aim for the Honor Student Award
Mikan gets really pumped up about exams when she hears about an opportunity to leave the school if you win the honor student award... now she's getting everyone to help her study despite being told there's no chance for her... she gets Noda-sensei to tell her about history, and Tsubasa wonders if he should tell her that Noda's information is useless for studying for tests...
Mikan manages to get the rest of the class pumped up... surprising Sumire.. and then even Natsume starts helping out some guys who are asking him for help... Luca looks at him in surprise.. that creepy masked guy is spying on Natsume/Mikan with contempt...
Narumi makes the class do a really weird test where everyone has to write him a love letter using certain words/kanji.. one of teachers gives them a test and uses these magic cactus things that detect and punish people cheating with their alices.. Mikan's cactus looked at Mikan's answers and just laughed at her...
then another person comes in as a substitute for their next teacher.. it's an unknown high school student wearing a lot of that jewelry made to suppress powers. only Natsume knows who this guy is.. he talks to Persona afterwards.. persona is just there to tell Natsume he's noticed him being less depressed than usual... since he's already lost his family and home long ago, Persona deduces that a new student made him this way... he uses his powers on a nearby plant and disintigrates it.
more vague secretive plot teasing bullshit...
this next scene is really good... Mikan takes a break from studying, and sees Sumire sitting on a bench outside at night. she refuses to study anymore because it's pointless, since there's a cooking test and she'll never be able to pass it... Mikan refuses to let Perm give up, she says that she'll teach her what she learned from her grandpa.. when asked about her own studying, Mikan says this is more important.. she won't allow a friend of hers to give up on their dream.
then some crazy shenanigans with her and perm acting crazy all night trying to cook... and by the time they took the test they were completely out of it end took longer than anyone else.. Mikan falls asleep during the last test, dreaming about meeting her grandpa...
Episode 22 - Mr. Bear and the Prince
I kinda remember this plot too, but it might've been a little different in the manga... Mikan meets this guy from Tsubasa's class, Kaname, who has the power to make living dolls, and the creator of the evil teddy bear.. Tsubasa tells her that the reason he was hospitalized was because he has the type of alice that shortens his life span when he uses it, he keeps on using it anyway to make stuffed animals for people despite everyone telling him to think about his health... When Mikan sees Natsume again, she starts to wonder if that's also the type of power that Natsume has...
the bear was the first stuffed animal friend he created, and the only one that can't talk.. he tells Mikan this when she goes into his room at night, worried about him.. and Tsubasa says that making stuffed animals is this guy's most cherished thing in life, and forcing him to stop would probably kill him..
later, there's a completely unrelated subplot where Mikan, Hotaru, Sumire, Luca, and Iinchou are out exploring the woods at night to capture some ghost that appeared.. it's actually mr. bear holding a lantern... going to visit Kaname.. a really sad scene where Kaname accepts his shortened lifespan and worries that the bear won't have a friend afterwards..
the next day, Kaname has to leave everyone to go back to the hospital again... Mikan tells him that she'll be Mr. Bear's friend when he's not around.
