Episode 21

Rider challenges Saber to a race. She uses her sword's invisible air to speed up the motorcycle beyond its limits, catches up to Rider and Waver, only to learn Rider isn't actually the one who took Irisveil... Kiritsugu concludes that it must have been Kariya who took Iri.

Kirei was the one who made Kariya kidnap Iris, using Berserker's ability to disguise himself as Rider... in exchange Kirei fills him up on command spells... With unlimited command spells from Kirei he can now control Berserker. Zouken is there watching, seems to disapprove of Kirei's actions but allows it anyway.

Kariya goes to the church, and finds out Tokiomi has been killed, and then Aoi (Tokiomi's wife, Kariya's friend) comes in after him and thinks he did it... Kariya denies it, and tells her about how Tokiomi was a jerk for handing Sakura over to Zouken. Then he goes insane and kills Aoi out of frustration... Kirei set this all up on purpose, and him and Archer watch in enjoyment...

Episode 22
Kirei has Irisviel in captivity... He tells her that him and Kiritsugu are the same, but Iri disagrees... Kiri is fighting for world peace, while Kirei is just pure evil...

Archer/Kirei send out a signal to the other masters inviting them to battle. Waver uses up all his command spells to tell Rider to win and conquer the world, and wants to stay behind thinking he'll only burden Rider... but Rider thinks of Waver as his friend and wants them to ride into battle together, regardless of his status as master...

Kiritsugu and Saber realize this is a trap by Kirei, but conclude that they have no choice... Irisviel has started awakening as the Holy Grail...

Episode 23
Saber fights the gun-wielding berserker in a parking lot, and Waver and Rider battle Archer. Saber realizes Berserker somehow knows the exact length and shape of her invisible sword... his true identity is Sir Lancelot, one of her loyal knights...

Archer destroys Rider's Ionion Hetairoi reality marble with his noble phantasm "Enuma Elish", an attack that breaks through space-time... Rider realizes he can't win, removes Waver from battle and asks him to live on and pass down the tale of his final moments... Archer respects Rider enough to fulfill his wish of keeping Waver alive... the grail only needs the servants to be sacrificed anyway... (wait, doesn't Archer have a problem with this?)

Kiritsugu finally confronts Kirei, just as he has Irisviel placed on an alter for the grail summoning...

Saber continues battling Berserker (Sir Lancelot) while talking to him about their past, and Kiritsugu fights Kirei...

As the black ooze from the grail falls onto Kiritsugu, he sees a corrupted version of Irisviel asking him what his wish is... The grail tells him that his wish for world peace will result in the death of everyone except for his family...

Kiritsugu refuses the grail's offer. The cost is too great... The grail curses Kiritsugu to a shortened lifespan... Kirei tries to convince him to reconsider, but Kiritsugu shoots him instead. Saber shows up, and Gilgamesh tries to hit on her, and offers her to become his wife...

In order to maintain his philosophy of killing the few to save the many, he has to kill his own wife... He uses his last command spell to order Saber to destroy the Holy Grail. Saber cries out in desperation as she is forced to destroy the grail, losing her chance of achieving salvation for her country...

... wow... this is heavy...

Suddenly the grail bleeds out a lava fountain across the city... this corrupted grail mud also somehow saved Kirei from being killed, and made Gilgamesh able to live beyond the constraints of a heroic spirit...  The corrupted grail had actually granted Kirei's and Archer's wishes, they're the true winners of the 4th Holy Grail war.

The Three families: Tohsaka, Einzbern and Matou, had started the Holy Grail War ritual between them in order to unlock access to the Root, and invited 4 other magi to join so that 7 masters could summon the 7 heroic spirits of each class so that they could be sacrificed for the Holy Grail... The church took control over who gets to use the grail... And as a result you now have an evil priest who uses a corrupted grail to cause senseless destruction...

The grail's corrupted ooze destroys a whole city sector... Kiritsugu feels terrible, and goes searching through this city of death looking for someone to save, and finds a kid called Shirou, and is cries tears of relief...

Sakura sees Kariya die from the crest worms, and she accepts her fate as Zouken's next subordinate...

Kirei attends Tokiomi's funeral... Aoi and Rin are there, she survived the attack from Kariya, but suffered brain damage and can't remember anything... she and Rin have no idea what Kirei has done to their family... and Rin even accepts the dagger from Kirei, the same one that killed her dad...

As Saber returns to the realm of heroic spirits, she remembers Lancelot, which makes her feel even worse...
I couldn't even comprehend the hearts of those who served right beside me...
She vows to win the grail and achieve her wish the next time... Kiritsugu lost contact with the Einzbern family, and lives in the city with Shirou who looks up to him as a hero and wants to fulfill his dream of achieving world peace...
