Fate/Zero high session 4

Episode 16

Fate/Zero screenshot Fate/Zero screenshot Fate/Zero screenshot

That pathetic asshole Kayneth goes to Risei and manages to get the credit for killing Caster, and right after he's rewarded with a command seal, he kills Risei...

...wow, Kiritsugu and Maya are so cold hearted... Maya finds Kayneth's wife and cuts off her arm so that she loses her command seal... Then Kiri threatens Kayneth and his wife at gunpoint, unless Kayneth agrees to using a command seal to force Lancer to kill himself... then after he does it, Maya goes and shoots both of them anyway... jeez, I thought Kayneth was a jerk, but these two are even worse...

Saber chews out Kiritsugu for his dishonorable methods... Kiri doesn't care, he says there's nothing honorable about chivalry, and all that matters is that he saves the world from war.

Episode 17
Irisviel makes an agreement with Tokiomi, to ally with him against Rider on the condition they help remove Kirei from the war... She is really afraid of Kiritsugu fighting Kirei. The Einzburn family doesn't trust him at all...

Iri reveals to Maya that she is the vessel for the Holy Grail, and will be sacrificed once the war is over...

As expected, Kirei isn't shaken up at all by his father's death. In fact he sees it as his destiny that he now gets to inherit the ability to give out command seals... The Einzburns are right to be afraid of this guy.

Kirei talks about Holy Grail War's purpose with Archer... This whole ritual is an attempt to open passage to the Root through the sacrifice of seven heroic spirits that were summoned as servants. He knows Tokiomi knows this, and has to save his command spells so that he can use one of them to force Archer to kill himself...

Then Tokiomi goes to entrust Kirei with his daughter Rin... but Kirei kills Tokiomi and makes a contract with Archer, becoming his new master... The Einzburns are right to be afraid of this guy. He's even more cold hearted and crazy than Kiritsugu... the two of them fighting each other would lead to a lot of casualties...

This episode sets up a lot of the context for Fate/Stay Night, it's really interesting... Archer is very pleased with his new master... Kirei says that his own father and teacher never understood him. I think this newfound power has pushed him over the edge and made him even more insane than before.

Episode 18
Kiritsugu's past, part 1

Noritaka Emiya and his assistant Shirley were researching a potion that could grant immortality... Kiritsugu finds that Shirley used the potion on herself and she became a Dead Apostle, a type of vampire... She's eating live chickens to satiate her hunger... She wants Kiritsugu to kill her before she infects other people...

Instead of killing her, Kiritsugu goes to inform the church, and they get their church executors and mage association enforcers to take care of it... but by now the entire village has been infected... his actions caused the death of many more people because he refused to kill one person.

Kiritsugu meets Natalia, a mercenary hired to kill the mage responsible for this vampire outbreak... and then after talking to Noritaka and failing to convince him to stop his research, Kiri kills his own father himself... no wonder he turned out this way...

Episode 19
Kiritsugu's past, part 2

Kiri travels with Natalia as an apprentice mercenary. Natalia does some operation on Kiri and used his magical properties to create some special anti-magic bullets.

Kiritsugu ends up having to kill another loved one, Natalia, in order to save a bunch of people...

Episode 20
Irisviel has started becoming sick due to the Holy Grail being closer to completion, she gives Saber's Avalon protection to Kiritsugu... Kiritsugu goes to try and kill Tokiomi, while Saber goes to find Rider and Waver to fight them... Iri tells Maya about why Kiritsugu is like this, and she says her wish is for this to be the last Holy Grail War so that her daughter Ilya can live a normal life...

Kariya is shown in Zouken's worm feeding torture chamber... There's something very disturbing about the Matou family's mage training rituals...

Kiritsugu finds Tokiomi already dead, and then returns to Iri and Maya, but meanwhile Rider comes and captures Irisveil and leaves Maya nearly dead... Kiritsugu uses a command spell to teleport Saber and she chases Rider down on a motorcycle...

Wow, this is getting really good now. I still don't have any sympathy for Kiritsugu, he's almost as much of a jerk as Kirei... but I feel bad for Iri...
