Episode 17
Kuzuki is telling Caster about his past and why he thinks of himself as not human... Rin and Shirou are about start executing their plan to get Saber back. Berserker, the 2nd ally servant they had available to help them, is gone now, and they are left with just Lancer on their side somehow... he's taking care of both Saber and Archer... the fake Assassin can't leave the temple so he's no problem.. (and the real Assassin is on Lancer's side anyway)..
Shirou can hold off Kuzuki, and Rin can take Caster down by sheer projectile spam... so Gil is now the biggest problem for them... but I suspect that Shirou will somehow be able to hold his own against Gil too by now... they want to defeat Caster to force Archer/Saber back to their side, and finally win the holy grail war... (see that's the real reason Lancer's master is letting him help them)
Caster: "Are all mages of this era so foolhardy? Now I understand why Archer deserted you."
Shirou: "Kuzuki can see that we have a plan up our sleeves, but he's letting Caster do things her way."
meanwhile, Lancer declares that he was forced to hold back against Archer last time...
Lancer: "working with that little lady, you probably would've been a match for Caster."
Archer: "I chose the option with the higher chance, however slight... Unfortunately, I am devoid of pride."
"If you have a hero's pride, cast it aside while you still can."
Lancer: "You've heard of my spear's special abilities, haven't you Archer?"
Archer: "Of course. It has a curse that reverses cause and effect. It's certainly fearsome, but unless you get close, it's nothing but a sharp stinger."
Lancer: "But spears can also be used like this..."
Gae Bolg, the spear whose curse kills with a single blow. When thrown, it is an anti-army Noble Phantasm. It strikes for the heart. Careful aim is crucial. In which case, taking the blow head on is the only way."
uh... not sure if that last part was translated right..
Archer projected Rho Aias to protect himself from the spear... but Lancer's spear is mightier than even the original Gungnir... looks like the spear somehow only hit Lancer's arm...
Archer then tells Lancer that he can feel Caster's watch gone away, suggesting that she's having some trouble right now... did he turn on Caster just now too?
Shirou is taking on Kuzuki.. but
he doesn't have much mana left and can only project two more swords.
Rin has like an RPG fighting still... with limited item-based spells and attacks...
while Caster is more of a Doremi witch world type of witch, who can get tons of mileage out of a single magic crystal rather than using them up just for single spells. Caster easily nullified Rin's attack...
it seems this was all part of Rin's plan though... she made it seem like that was her biggest guns and she had no tricks left, and while Caster started taunting her.. she went in for a surprise attack... with her fists. she used up the last of her gems so she could get close enough to melee the vulnerable magic user...
"Sorry, but for mages nowadays, the art of self-defense is a required subject!"
Kuzuki stopped fighting the worn out Shirou and now goes back to guarding Caster... Rin knows she can't do anything now...
suddenly...
"Trace on"
Caster gets killed by a barrage of swords from Archer...
Kuzuki: "I will fulfill your wish in your place..."
then Archer easily kills Kuzuki.
Shirou: "Trace on. That's definitely what he said. He spoke exactly the same words that I do."
so.. even though Archer has no master now, he still intends to kill Shirou and Saber and win the holy grail war on his own without rejoining Tohsaka.
Archer talks to Saber as if speaking for Shirou himself... "I never should have become a hero."

"I suggest you stand aside, king of knights."
Archer takes on Shirou after pushing Saber aside... and tells him that his ideals are the wrong path... he's about to kill Shirou...
Rin: "Heed my words. My will creates your body, and my sword creates my destiny. If you heed the grail's call and obay my will and reason... Do so and I will entrust my destiny to your sword!"
Rin is making another contract.. not with Archer, but with Saber... Shirou can't provide Saber with Mana, but Rin can.
"I accept you as my master, Rin."
Archer can still hold his own against a fully powered Saber, even though he has no contract anchoring him to this world any longer...
"I am the bone of my sword.
Unknown to death, nor to life..."
Saber, one day someone will appear who will free you. But the sole objective of my current self is to kill Emiya Shirou...

A reality marble... a forbidden spell that manifests the caster's inner world and encroaches on reality. Which means that you aren't a swordsman or a bowman.
"When I was alive, I was a mage before I became a Heroic Spirit. I owned neither a holy sword nor a demonic one. All I have is this world. This reality marble is my noble phantasm. It reproduces and stores any weapon whose original I've seen."
"You're saying this wasteland is where you ended up in life, Archer?"
"Care to test it, Saber? I'll faithfully replicate that holy sword of yours."
Shirou realizes he's the one who has to protect Saber...
"If the rules and principals of all the copying I've done so far are right... I can see how this place works...
Trace on!"
Suddenly Archer's mana runs out... the reality marble goes away, and Archer instead tries taking Rin hostage. Shirou tells him they'll resume the fight at Einzburn's castle...
Saber: "Let me worry about Rin for now. You should head home and rest."
they meet Lancer, and Shirou explains that he was on their side..
while Rin is knocked out, she rdreams she had about Archer's past again...
"This hill is his world. It was his reward for always helping people, the end of the line... He seemed like he embraced this landscape, dying with a smile, saying he was satisfied."
"He has to be happy for what he accomplished, or else all of that will be a lie. "
"If he made all those people happy, he should become at least as happy as all those people combined. However, that wasn't the reward he received."
"All I can do is mourn what's become of him. I already know how it will end for that big fool."
"He believed with all his heart that he could save 10's of thousands more lives by trading his peaceful afterlife for becoming a heroic spirit. But that hope was betrayed. Only one thing can be said about him. That he has been constantly betrayed by everything around him. And at the very, very end, he was betrayed even by the one ideal in which he believed."
"My body is made of swords.
After you became a Heroic Spirit, that's the incantation you were given, right?
I can't agree with one single thing about your life."
just then, Shinji comes in to take Rin from Archer.. saying Archer's no match for him.
"My agreement with Shirou was that she remains unharmed. But that agreement expires at dawn. Once the deadline has passed, do as you will."
Gil calls Archer a faker...
Archer takes on Shirou after pushing Saber aside... and tells him that his ideals are the wrong path... he's about to kill Shirou...

Archer explains to Shirou that there's two of that pendant that Rin saved his live with, because one of them came from Archer. Since she didn't have that catalyst when she summoned him, she assumed she'd just summon a servant at random. but no servant is summoned by chance... the summoned heroic spirit, not the summoner, possessed the catalyst. The concept of time does not exist where the heroic spirits are summoned... yada yada he explains the obvious by now in case anyone still didn't get it.
Lancer says he'll take care of saving Rin from Shinji... saving Rin was what he was ordered to do anyway.
Saber still doesn't fully trust Lancer, but she lets him take care of her master so she can stay here with Shirou...
Lancer comes to save her... but then Kirei suddenly comes in to stop him.
meanwhile, Archer is talking to Shirou and Saber about why he wants to kill his past self... his pact to become a guardian made him see an endless existence of nothing but killing people in order to save thousands for each 1 person killed.
"I just didn't want anyone to cry in the world I knew..."
now that he's fully explained to himself.. he hands shirou a sword and tells him to do what's right and kill himself without becoming a heroic spirit.
oh I see.. Kirei is there because Lancer is ignoring his real orders of killing Archer.
