I've already watched CCS a couple times before, but this time I decided to rewatch every episode while stoned. I already knew the story very well, but watching it again high made me interpret things a bit differently and appreciate it a bit more.
Episodes 1-4
Sakura's dreams are starting to become reality, making this cheerful girl start to turn all spacey and weird... it's the power of the Clow Cards driving her towards her destiny... Whenever she's home alone she gets a strange sense of something very mysterious down in her basement, that would change her whole world...
As she goes down into the basement, and starts remembering more of her dream, that dream starts becoming real...
The cards ran away from this girl because they still only think of Clow Reed as their master, and without a master they are confused and scared...
So the Clow Cards are like magical beasts that only a mage with great powers can see and capture... but like normal people can still feel the effects of their magic.
Sakura's such a great character... she's very athletic, and her cheery attitude combined with her ability to capture cards can get her through anything. Now I totally remember why I loved this series so much.
Tomoyo's a great character too... she's a weird rich girl with bodyguards, and she gets properly introduced in the 2nd episode... she gets involved mainly because Sakura is such a cheery person that she loves to be around her, and also because she gets to film Sakura flying and doing magical girl stuff.
Also Sakura gets really weird whenever she's near her older brother's friend Yukito. The 3rd episode makes it clear that she has really deep feelings for him and it's not just a silly crush.
I remember the manga version explains the reasoning for Sakura's emotions for Yukito, because he's the judge who decides if she gets to become the new master, and his magical aura kind of has that effect on her. It's interesting knowing this ahead of time while rewatching the series.
I think Sakura kind of subconsciously uses her magic abilities to keep people away whenever she's doing magical stuff. It'd be way too embarrassing if random people saw her...
It's really fun trying to remember the episode plots and try to guess what the card of the episode is gonna be before they reveal it... I like the sense of mystery that surrounds every card's introduction, it's like kind of partly in the mystery genre... and the added complexity of Sakura's growing card collection giving her more and more abilities makes it really interesting to see her grow as a character.
oh and I love how Sakura wears a different outfit each episode.. that's one of the best features of this show. Episode 5
lol this ep is really cute... the Jump card wore itself out and Sakura captured it easily.
Episode 6
This episode shows how Sakura has a real weakness when it comes to her memories of her mother... too cute
Episode 7
This ep is really fun.. Sakura has to sneak into a museum like a thief to capture a card... ends with the introduction of Li Syaoran. another mage who can capture cards...
Episode 8
Sakura meets Syaoran for the first time, and they have a cliche tsundere rivalry going on
Episode 9
Syaoran shows another side to himself when he helps Sakura save her friend and capture a card... and also he seems to be totally gay for Yukito and instantly becomes Sakura's love rival...
Episode 10
Some drama going on between Tomoyo's mother and Sakura's father.. pretty interesting
Episode 11
Some drama going on between Tomoyo's mother and Sakura's father.. pretty interesting
