Only Yesterday movie recap

Only Yesterday box cover art A woman keeps reminiscing about her life when she was 10... While she heads on a trip to start working as a farmer with her relatives...

This is very ghibli-style slice of life... A very normal/boring story about school romance and family drama... The woman sees herself as being in another state of transition like when she first learned about periods...

She meets a younger girl at the farm who reminds her of herself when she was 10.. She bonds with her.
I didn't grow up here, but I feel like my soul belongs here...
She sees the beauty in the farm being a collaboration of the earth's and humans' efforts.
Behold, the crows fly home. First one! Then two! .. Then three! Then four!
After failing at math and not understanding division, she found out she was amazing at acting..
The adult version talks about when her 10 year old version got into acting, and her dad disapproved it when she jokingly said she wanted to be in show business..
If today's no good, you'll have tomorrow.
That song, about putting things off... Toshio took in a positive, affirmative way.

At the beginning, the kid version of her was the main character mostly, and she complained about not having a distant relatives home they could go to visit on holidays... Now the grown up version of her does have exactly that... The place she grew up in is now a distant relatives home for her.

Now she recalls her adult self, staying at that farm for 10 days of vacation... The grandma then suggests she marry Toshio and live here.
She then runs away in embarassment, just like she did with her school crush when she was 10... She reminds me a lot of Makino Tsukushi.
That version of her then recalls her 5th grade self, being rejected by a boy she likes... Finally she gets in a car with Toshio and tells him she wants to talk alone for a while... She starts telling him about her past...

That kid she liked was always picked on... She thought they were all being too mean, and felt sorry for him... Nobody wanted to shake his hand at the end of the term, but they had to. when she tried, he said "I ain't shaking hands with you."

Toshio says that kid might've actually did like her... Trying to show that he's tough by not shaking her hand...

Toshio helps her clear her head... She decides to leave and come back another time... As she's leaving she clearly sees all the delusions of the past around her... They get left behind as she looks toward tomorrow.
